I'm also in love with this idea of a mismatched linen pants and jacket sans shirt (although I may be in love with the old man more).
The Sartorialist waxes eloquent on the beauty of a linen suit.

(Notice in each instance - the beauty and presence of the suit is only enhanced by its "distressed" qualities - wrinkles, rumples, worn-in shoulders and frayed seams.)
